The colloquium ‘A Europa em Álvaro Siza: cidade, democracia, arquitetura’ took place at Fundação de Serralves, Porto, on the 7th of December 2019. With a focus on the ‘City, Democracy and Architecture’, the colloquium allowed putting into perspective the work of Álvaro Siza within the framework of Portuguese architecture and aligned with European culture: from the early-20th-century modern avant-gardes to the challenges that emerged post-Second World War until present times.
Multiple critical perspectives were crossed, by summoning researchers who work in different European architecture schools and constitute the network ‘Facing Europe’ of the project (EU)ROPA, as well as researchers linked to the work of Siza and keynote speakers internationally renowned.
